Day 230 – #58 Bake 5 different cakes

22 08 2010

This, unsurprisingly, is a Dark Chocolate Cake.  It was supposed to have crystallized violets on it and look all sophisticated.  But I didn’t have any, couldn’t find any and don’t like violet flavoured stuff anyway.  So I sprinkled it with white chocolate stars and glitter sugar!  Far more me…

This was made to celebrate my clever sister Laura passing her A-levels.  We had a celebration party for her and this was my contribution along with some meringues.  I haven’t acutally tried it yet as I was too full of trifle and blancmange rabbit but we brought some home with us so I can try it tomorrow 🙂

Day 227 – #55 50 New Recipes – another one!

19 08 2010

Mmm, looks delicious doesn’t it?  This was today’s dinner.  A rosemary lamb bake.  Another weight watchers recipe and it only took 30 minutes to cook.  AND, more importantly, only used the one pan.  Bargain!  It was a wee bit fatty, but then I’m not mad keen on lamb.  In the recipe it suggest trying it with pork which I reckon could be the way to go with this dish.  Definitely recommended.

Day 226 – #55 50 New Recipes

19 08 2010

I’ve failed.  I made another new dish this evening – it was a French-style sausage casserole and it was gorgeous.  It smelt delicious whilst it was cooking (which took ages by the way) and I was so desperate to eat it that I forgot to take a photo.  I was halfway through my plate when I realised.  If I make it again, which is a definite posibility, then I’ll take a picture and add it at a later date!

Day 225 – #55 50 New Recipes

17 08 2010

This is Courgette & Halloumi Pesto Pasta.  It’s a weight watchers recipe and should have been lovely.   The pasta was nice, the halloumi was lovely (as halloumi always is) and the courgette ribbons were nice.  But the pesto was horrid.  It was Felipo Berio pesto and it was grim.  The pesto I made before was *much* nicer.  So if I were to cook it again (which is not terribly likely as Mark has decided he hates pesto) I would use my own sauce.  Or perhaps a different sauce altogether.

Still, it was definitely worth trying.

Day 224 – Time for some changes…

16 08 2010

I’ve decided to change a couple of my challenges.  The first of which is #6 Run a Half-Marathon.  I’m just not going to do this.  The thought of it puts me off running altogether.  Which is a shame as I really enjoy it.  So I’ve devised a new challenge which will still be a massive commitment in terms of running time but will be more rewarding on a regular basis.  I have decided to run from Lands End to John O’Groats!  Now, I know what you’re thinking.  Is she mad?!?!  But it’s not as insane as all that…  I will be running the distance (874 miles!) over a period of time.  Each week I’ll update with how many miles I’ve trained that week.  And if I can find some software to let me do it, I will have a little visual of how far I’ve come too.

The second challenge I’m changing is #62 Play the piano for 30mins each week.  This just isn’t happening.  The piano is currently burried under piles and piles of books, magazines and general junk so I can’t even get to it.  I’m leaving in the learning a new piece challenge as hopefully we’ll get the dining room sorted out next year.  However, for the time being I am going to replace #62 with a different arty challenge.  I’ve signed up for a drawing & painting course at the college.  I’m very excited and am itching to start.  The 10 week course begins in September and I’ll have option to do 2 further terms if I like it.  Watch this space….
